The Kissing Booth – Movie Review

The Kissing Booth (2018) - IMDb

‘The Kissing Booth’ is one of Netflix’s most popular original movies and is based on the book of the same name written by Beth Reekles. The addition of a second movie in this franchise sent its ratings through the roof but we’ll get to that another time!

Elle Evans (Joey King) and Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney) have been best friends since the day they were born – which was literally the exact same day in the exact same hospital. Growing up they devised a list of rules for their friendship and rule number 9 is on Elle’s mind at the moment – “relatives of your best friend are totally off limits”. Unfortunately, Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi), Lee’s older brother, is the hottest and most popular guy in school – and Elle is all too aware of this. However, she decides to forget about Noah and bear in mind that Lee is her best friend. As the movie progresses, however, it becomes more difficult for Elle to hide her feelings and she has to make a choice before she looses it all.

This movie is a feel-good rom-com that’s fun for everyone. Although, it may have a couple of plot-holes, it’s too enjoyable to worry about any of that and I loved it.

The relationships between the characters were fun and realistic and I loved the chemistry that Elle and Lee had on screen – it was easy to tell that Joey King and Joel Courtney are actually good friends in reality.

I am giving this movie 9/10, with 1 point lost for some unrealistic aspects of the plot.

Either way though, it was funny, heart-warming and left me wanting more – which I ultimately got with the release of ‘The Kissing Booth 2’. And, even better news for fans, ‘The Kissing Booth 3’ is set to be releasedin 2021 having already been filmed alongside ‘The Kissing Booth 2’. So now I’m even more excited.

Give it a watch and let me know what you think!

Or, if you’ve already seen it, what did you think?

Lots of love,
