This hit romantic comedy won over many hearts when it was released in 2009. Unfortunately, it can’t be found on many streaming platforms but you can find it on Amazon Prime and Spanish Netflix (you may have to change your region if you’re not based in Spain!). It is also available on DVD everywhere and is often on television.

Canadian native Margaret Tate (played by Sandra Bullock) is a high-flying editor in New York City. Following the expiration of her visa, she finds out that, unless she has a legal reason to remain in the state, she will be deported back to Canada. So she finds a reason. Much to his and everyone else’s surprise she announces that she and her assistant Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds) are engaged. As the immigration office becomes suspicious and Margaret and Andrew spend time with his family in Alaska, Margaret begins to realise that life will always be full of surprises and sometimes you don’t realise what you have until it’s gone.

I loved this movie. It was funny, heart-warming and full of surprises. The characters of Margaret and Andrew were completely different in every way and I loved the characterisation and chemistry that they had. Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds worked exceptionally well together and it is clear why when we hear that they were actually good friends on set.

I am giving this movie 10/10.

Obviously Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are household names and are known for their acting skills but this movie also starred Betty White as Grandma Annie, Mary Steenburgen as Andrew’s mother, Craig T. Nelson as his father and Oscar Nunez as the much loved Ramone. This cast was fabulous and they each brought something so different and exciting to the film.

This is such a feel-good movie that everyone can enjoy. I have seen it several times and I enjoy it more every time I see it. I would really recommend that you sit down with a snack, a cup of hot chocolate, this film and have a nice relaxing evening!

Let me know what you think!

Or, if you’ve seen it already, what did you think of this movie?

Lots of love,
